Dear Parents,

The students in Grade 4 had an amazing week of learning.  It all began with learning how to code using Microbit. The students were given a single board computer, USB cable and a battery pack. Using the website, they created a beating heart.

Due to the cold weather, we spent a lot of time indoors. We learned a new form of movement called "STOMP IT". This was designed by MR. V and his team as a fun way for students to engage in physical activity. We hope you enjoy the video.

On Friday, February 5 the student in our class will be given the opportunity to bring Valentine cards to school. Each student will be given a brown paper bag. We will disperse the cards on that day and will quarantine them until February 10. If your child wants to participate in this activity, V Day cards MUST BE AT SCHOOL ON FRIDAY FEBRUARY 5. This is an optional activity.

Dear Parents,

The students in our class have collaborated to write our blog this week.

In humanities, we sketched the indigenous bison. Firstly, we outlined the body and then added it's fur through shading light to dark. Did you know that it's hide is darker on the back part, and lighter on the front of it's body.?

In Science, we are wrapping up learning about "Light and Shadows". We are going to have a quiz on Monday January 18. All students should study this weekend.

In math, we are working on an assignment about "Patterns and Algebra". We learn to problem solve by using mental math strategies to solve missing numbers in a chart. Feel free to ask me about my number scroll.

Dear Parents,

This week the students in our class created a splatter painting using paint brushes and string. They used cool colours of blue, cyan, indigo, and green to capture the style of painting used by the famous artist, Jackson Pollock. The theme in their art work is a “Cool Winters Day”. We hope that you enjoy these lovely art pieces.

 Dear Parents,

This week at school our focus has been on finishing our Humanities research project on the 6 regions of Alberta. Our hope is to present it to the class during the last week of November. Students will be sharing their projects at home with you. This is NOT something that your child should be working on at home.

In math the students created bar and line graphs based on collected data about their spelling scores. Their graph will consist of their scores over the past 6 week period. Students work diligently during word work to learn the correct spelling format. Our quiz on the "Words of the Week" will be on Friday Nov 13.

Our Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held next week on November 19th and 20. This will be a virtual meeting. Please sign up for it through My CBE Account.

Your child will bring home a "Home Folder" on Wednesday Nov 18. It will include 3 pieces of selected work. Please review the work with your child as we will speak to it during the interview.

Proud Piece - A selected piece of work your child has worked hard on, and is very proud of to share with you.

Math - This is a 4 square demonstrating the different strands in math that our class has been working on, for example; Number Sense (counting by, and understanding patterns, as well as representing.a number in a variety of ways, Number Operations ( addition of 2, 3 or 4 digit numbers), Graphing ( A bar graph and analysis),

Writing - a home journal sample of writing where your child writes you a letter using paragraphs, descriptive language and subject specific vocabulary.

Dear Parents,

This week at school the students worked on their Humanities research project on the 6 Regions of Alberta. They are adding a slide on a specific animal from the region that they researched . Their info slide includes information on the characteristics, diet, predator/prey and facts. Feel free to ask your child about his/her choice of animal.

In math, we are focusing on "Number Patterns"; counting by a specific number and relating it to multiplication. Please ensure that your child practices on IXL math.

Our experiment on the decomposition of pumpkins is underway. Students are observing pumpkins in water, soil, air, vinegar and water. We will be having a quiz on "Waste in our World", on Monday. Please ensure that your child reviews the study guide in our Google Classroom.
